It was Mother’s Day. Not the calendar Mother’s Day, but my Mother’s Day. The Mister decided we would celebrate the day before, because…let’s just say my husband wanted to make sure the day was as drama-free as we wanted it to be, and he couldn’t guarantee that on actual Mother’s Day.
We drove to an area a little more developed than our little town. We both needed jeans because of the Mister’s new food requirements and resulting weight loss. (Yes! Both of us! He goes on a diet and I need smaller jeans. Woohoo!) So we went to the closest shopping mall with a good variety of restaurants nearby. Jeans, a meal I didn’t have to cook or clean up after…we’re simple folks.
It takes about 45 minutes to get there, so at one point, we found ourselves cranking the music and all singing Yonder Mountain String Band together. Hoss pretty much knows the songs and was singing and dancing in the car seat. Even preverbal Lady A joined in, aaaaaahhhhh baaa baaa bbbbpppphhhh…
This is the best online version of the song I can find. Anyway…
We kind of calmed down, and Hoss and Lady A started making faces at each other and laughing. The singing, the seat-dancing, the giggling…it all hit me square in the heart.
I turned to the Mister and said, “do you even know how amazing our family is? The four people in this car are by far the coolest people on the planet. I’m just speechless, I guess.”
“That’s because we have the syrup,” he replied. He knew I would know what he meant.
Yep, we have the syrup. Tons of it. And we use it liberally.
Every night, I lie in bed with Hoss while he falls asleep. It’s something I complain about beforehand, but once I’m there I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s our time for cuddling, talking and finding out what’s really on his mind. We’ll recap the day, or if he’s especially receptive, I’ll lay a safety lesson on him.
I save the important stuff for bedtime, because he’s listening, and because he has
I read an interview with John Acuff a while back, and he said he blogged for a while and was thankful for the time spent figuring things out while nobody was looking.
As this is a small blog and only a few months old (I’m not counting the times when I’d post here and there and disappear for a while), one could say I’m doing the
So, I explained here how we found out that The Mister has some food sensitivities. Not allergies – those involve the immune system. Food sensitivities are metabolic. There are some things he just can’t digest.
Namely, egg, dairy and gluten. In other words, he can’t have breakfast as we know it.
So every day for a year, (poor guy!) I’ve been blending up whatever fruits and vegetables I grab first. And he’ll drink
The folks at Tropical Traditions sent me a big ‘ol jar of their Gold Label virgin coconut oil to try. Wasn’t that nice of them?
It wasn’t my first experience with coconut oil, but it was my first experience with both the brand Tropical Traditions and with coconut oil that wasn’t refined or deodorized. And since I had a huge jar at my disposal, I decided to test out some of the other uses
This is our first season as farm share members. In the past, we lived in a sub-optimal place for a community-supported agriculture (CSA) membership, then between moving and getting our bearings and hanging around on the waiting list, the time has finally come!
Almost. Next month.
CAN. NOT. WAIT.
Once a week, we’ll get a nice big box of organic veggies and extra goodies such as fresh flowers and eggs, maybe
When my kids are around the extended family, I find myself repeating things like, “okay, enough candy” and “no more juice, you’ll have water” to my son. When my F-I-L brought home sugar-free pancake syrup for Hoss (likely because I bark about the sweets), I realized something.
We confuse the heck out of people.
So, I’ve outlined the way we eat – partly for myself, and also for anyone else I may be
Maybe you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but old dogs can still figure things out.
Did I ever mention that I have no computer or web training of any kind? Scratch that, I took a computer science class in the late ’90s in which we learned fancy things. Things like, click-drag to highlight words. After we had the basic keyboard skills down, we puttered around with HTML and made our
